The 2027 College Football Playoff (CFP) title game will be played at Allegiant Stadium, adding another marquee sporting event to the Las Vegas calendar.

Reports surfaced Tuesday that the US casino hub will host the game on Jan. 25, 2027. The first iteration of the CFP title game under the new 12-team format was played Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with Ohio State topping Notre Dame, 34-23. Next year’s game will be played in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium — a venue named after the Seminole Tribe’s casinos.
News of Las Vegas winning the CFP title game emerged just over a week after the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) signed off on a proposal to set aside $40 million to host the game. That figure includes a $25 million commitment and $15 million in contingencies.
Allegiant Stadium is home to the NFL’s Raiders and UNLV football and along with SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles — itself a previous CFP championship game host — is one of the newest football venues in the US. Both opened in 2020.
CFP Title Game Adds to Las Vegas Sports Tradition
The 2027 adds to Sin City’s recent, though growing history of hosting top-flight sporting events. Las Vegas is almost a year removed from hosting the Super Bowl and is now a regular stop on the F1 circuit in addition to being home to a pair of NASCAR races, including a playoff tilt, per year, among other athletic competitions.
Landing the CFP title game also jibes with LVCVA’s vision for the city consistently hosting a big sporting event in the first half of the year as was the case with the Super Bowl last year. WrestleMania comes to Allegiant in April and the Raiders stadium will host the Final Four of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 2028.
A consistent of headline-grabbing events, be they concerts or sporting events, are essential to the profitability of Allegiant and comparable venues. In its short lifespan, the stadium has already checked that box while proving to be a major tourist draw for concerts and Raiders games.
Last year, Circa founder and CEO Derek Stevenssaid Las Vegas should be a permanent host city for a first-round CFP matchup. Those games are played at the home stadium of the higher seeded team.
Economic Impact
It’s estimated that Ohio State/Notre Dame contest drove $75 million in economic impact for Atlanta, but that figure could be considerably higher in Las Vegas in 2027 due to the city’s entertainment and gaming amenities.
In terms of sporting events, it’s nearly impossible to top the economic benefits of hosting a Super Bowl, but it’s likely Las Vegas will derive upside from the 2027 CFP title game because it’s an opportunity for hotels to raise rates and driver patrons to casinos and restaurants.
Garnering a name brand matchup on par with this year’s game would almost certainly result in significant economic positives for Las Vegas in 2027.
