JUST IN:The Ohio State football team are confirmed to lost a key piece of depth on the defensive line to the transfer portal…….

Jan 20, 2025; Atlanta, GA, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes defensive tackle Hero Kanu (93) against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the CFP National Championship college football game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Now that the longest college football season in history is over, Ohio State football players have some decisions to make. They have to decide whether or not to return, declare for the NFL Draft, or enter the transfer portal. Winning a national championship makes it a lot easier to make those choices.

With a team full of a lot of seniors, the Buckeyes don’t have to worry about too many draft decisions. Quinshon Judkins has already decided to declare for the draft. Sonny Styles has decided to returnback for another season. The biggest thing to watch is for players declaring for the portal.

One position the Ohio State Buckeyes would prefer not to lose players at is the defensive line. They are losing a lot of talent up front, including all of their starters. That means that the backups will be set up to start. Unfortunately, one of those backups has entered the transfer portal.

Ohio State football player Hero Kanu enters the transfer portal

The Buckeyes, unfortunately, will be losing defensive lineman Hero Kanu to the transfer portal. Kanu will have two years of eligibility remaining. He was a backup defensive lineman who figured to be in the rotation next year. He was a four-star recruit in the 2022 class.

With Kanu gone, the depth up front on the defensive line is even thinner than it was before. With so much turnover next year, that unit is going to be a big concern in 2025. The Buckeyes only addressed it slightly by adding Logan George from the transfer portal.

Ohio State will have to lean on a lot of young guys to step up and deliver in big games next year on the defensive line. It’s the only option they have. We wish Kanu the best in his future college football endeavors.
