There is no doubt that Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are the stars of the moment in the WNBA. Both players have stolen the spotlight since their arrival on the professional circuit, to such a degree that stars from other fields have praised them, just as WWE legend Ric Flair recently did.
The Nature Boy, as he calls himself, has been an icon of professional wrestling for 50 years. From his debut as a teenager in the defunct American Wrestling Association in 1972, to his most recent fight for AEW in March 2023, Flair has witnessed many of the great moments in the history of American sports.
As a star, Flair has been an avid NBA fan and was a constant attendee at Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan’s games in the 1990s. Now, “Slick” Ric has found two new figures to follow and didn’t hesitate to shower them with praise.
The world is more than the NBA: Flair
Sunday afternoon’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky pitted Clark and Reese against each other for the third time this season. The duel ended in a tight 88-87 victory for Chicago and was the best of Reese’s nascent career.
During the match, Flair took to his account on X, formerly Twitter, to share his thoughts on the match. “As Someone Who Enjoys The @NBA, @KingJames, Michael Jordan, Wilt, Magic, etc. I’m Sitting Here Enjoying The Competition Between @CaitlinClark22 and @Reese10Angel,” the wrestler wrote.
“I’m Enjoying This Just As The World Is More Than The NBA,” Flair said and did not hesitate to praise the two players. “Angel, You Could Be A Supermodel, But You Choose To Play Basketball. And Caitlin, The World Is Yours! You Both Are So Special As Are All The Women In The @WNBA,” he said.
The WNBA is stealing the show
In Flair’s opinion, women’s basketball is stealing the spotlight from other leagues. “Congratulations For Stealing The Show, Stealing My Attention, And I’m Sure So Many People Around The World’s Attention! So Proud Of You Both And All You Women!”
The numbers corroborate the fighter’s opinion. According to a statement from Disney, the parent company of ESPN, the audience for the game on Sunday the 23rd between Chicago and Indiana generated the highest audience for a basketball game for the network “since the 2018 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, and the second best for the network in over a decade.”
