Georgia first-round pick named as 49ers’ biggest bust in 2025
Georgia Bulldogs defensive end Mykel Williams has been named as the San Francisco 49ers’ biggest bust for the 2025 NFL season.
“The Georgia product may eventually be an NFL star, but he could easily underwhelm as a rookie,” said Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. Knox highlights a crowded 49ers edge rusher group and limited college production (just 14 sacks in three years at UGA) as reasons why Williams will be the 49ers’ biggest bust in 2025

The 49ers drafted Williams with the No. 11 pick in the first-round of the 2025 NFL draft, so it would be very disappointing for San Francisco if Williams turned out to be a bust this season. However, we don’t envision Williams being a bust as long as he stays healthy.
Williams has a low floor due to his effectiveness as a run-stopper. He is versatile and will play pass rushing snaps as well, but he may be forced to play on the interior some in obvious pass rushing situations. What is awesome about Williams is that he does have the flexibility to play as an interior or edge pass rusher.
Williams may have had limited production in college, but he was battling an ankle injury his entire junior season and played alongside some of the most talented players in the country, so he had more limited opportunities.
49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is excellent at developing defensive linemen and will put Williams in a position to succeed. Williams is more set up for success than Knox is giving him credit for. In fact, several NFL experts think that Williams will have an outstanding rookie season and earn the NFL defensive rookie of the year award. Williams was the second-most popular pick to win the award earlier this offseason.
The Cowboys don’t care about winning as much as they claim to care about winning.
If they did, they wouldn’t consistently drag their feet when it comes to the contracts earned by key players. They’ve done it several times in recent years, from Ezekiel Elliott to Dak Prescott to CeeDee Lamb to Dak Prescott (again) to Micah Parsons.
