Breaking Nerws: Kate Martin ventures into unprecedented and historic achievements.

Kate Martin enters uncharted, historic territory for the Iowa Hawkeyes

It takes a team to make things go. That is how the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team plays. Sure, Caitlin Clark has done more for women’s basketball than anyone before her, but to think she is doing it alone would be dismissing some great efforts.

One of those exceptional efforts is from graduate guard Kate Martin and everything she does for this team. When they need someone else to score, she finds a way. When they need to get a rebound, she comes up with it. When they need a stand on defense, Lisa Bluder trusts her.

All of this has made her the first-ever Iowa women’s basketball player to have recorded at least 900 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, 120 steals, and 60 blocks. Bailey Turner, Iowa’s Assistant Director of Strategic Communications, reported this.

This all-around effort was on display in Iowa’s recent win over Iowa State. Martin’s stat line in this game encapsulated her career as she tallied 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, an assistant, and one block.

Kate Martin has become Iowa’s glue piece and someone they can count on late in games when they need someone to step up. Her efforts are Herculean at times to elevate this Iowa team by doing the dirty work and it directly relates to the success this team is seeing.
