The Boston Bruins would be wise to add one more forward to their roster before the start of the 2024-25 season. While most of this year’s top free agents have found new homes, some decent depth options could be worth taking a flier on.

When looking at the remaining names left on the free-agent market, one player who could be a solid addition is Alex Nylander.

Nylander, 26, was selected eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Once a top prospect, the 6-foot-1 winger has never been able to become the top-six forward that many envisioned he would. While this is the case, he has shown that he can be a decent depth forward to have around for more secondary scoring.

Nylander was excellent after being traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Columbus Blue Jackets this past season. In 23 games for the Blue Jackets, he posted 11 goals to go along with 15 points. Surprisingly, even after Nylander’s strong production, the Blue Jackets elected not to send him a qualifying offer.

While the sample size was small, Nylander’s production with the Blue Jackets should grab the Bruins’ attention. It would not hurt to provide a bit more competition at training camp, and signing Nylander would give them that. On a cheap one-year deal, this could be an avenue worth exploring.
