Juan Soto’s future is becoming one of the offseason’s most intense sagas. With the New York Yankees and New York Mets leading the charge, other teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox, have also entered the fray, sparking a wave of speculation and rumors.

Soto’s search for a long-term home has generated daily headlines, with rumors suggesting potential offers from several top franchises.

The Yankees have reportedly upgraded their initial offer, making it clear they are determined to land the superstar outfielder. However, Soto’s agent, Scott Boras, is known for his strategic bargaining tactics, aiming to secure a record-breaking deal for his client.

Meanwhile, the Mets, under owner Steve Cohen, remain a formidable competitor. Their deep pockets and aggressive approach in free agency could make them the Yankees’ biggest challenge in bringing Soto to the Bronx.

Passan addresses rumors

Amid the flurry of reports, MLB insider Jeff Passan took to X to call out misinformation. He sarcastically thanked reporters who avoid fabricating updates.

“I am thankful for reporters who don’t make up stories,” he wrote. “I am also thankful that Juan Soto has not agreed to any contract, which means you can get off Twitter and go spend the holiday with your family. Happy Thanksgiving.”

Passan‘s statement appears to target rumors that Soto is close to a deal with the Red Sox, a claim that has circulated but remains unconfirmed.

The Yankees’ pursuit of Soto has been a high priority this offseason. After initial meetings with Soto, they’ve reportedly increased their offer, though specifics remain undisclosed. Despite this, the Mets‘ financial firepower looms large, with their ownership willing to outbid rivals for marquee players.

Adding to the drama, the Yankees are also exploring backup plans, with names like Alex Bregman, Walker Buehler, Max Fried and Corbin Burnes emerging as potential alternatives if their pursuit of Soto falls short.

The Toronto Blue Jays kicked off their efforts by meeting with Soto early in free agency, signaling their interest in adding a star to their lineup. The Boston Red Sox have also been linked to the 25-year-old slugger, raising the stakes in the competitive AL East.
