Tennessee Titans president of football
Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk fired general manager Ran Carthonon Tuesday and tasked Brinker, whom Carthon hired, to lead the search to replace him. That being said, the Titans said in their announcement of Carthon’s firing that Brinker and the new GM will work together to make roster decisions but that Brinker will “break ties” and will have “final authority on all football matters, including the roster
perations just got a lot more power.
It is important to Amy to have absolute clarity in the football organization.” Titans CEO Burke Nihill said in a statement. “And so, while the general manager position will have a primary responsibility on all these things, Chad is describing in terms of the day-to-day of overseeing the roster and the coaching staff, Chad is the leader of the football program.”
Brinker said in the release that he plans to look at a “diverse pool of candidates” for Carthon’s replacement, and isn’t limiting his search to rising stars or former GMs. Brinker says he’ll let the new GM set free agency and draft strategies and build the roster, but Brinker will “be right there with him.”
“At the end of the day, this person is going to be all ball, all day,” Brinker said. “They are going to focus on the roster and the coaching staff, and I’ll continue in my role with handling all the other areas that surround the center of your program, scouting and coaches. So, I will support that person. But we are looking for a general manager who wakes up every day and is focused on building the team.
Brinker has been with the Titans since 2023. Carthon initially hired him away from Green Bay to be the Titans’ assistant GM, but Brinker was promoted to president of football operations for 2024. Carthon was assigned “final say” on the roster by Adams Strunk. In Carthon’s first formal year in that role, the Titans finished with a 3-14 record and earned the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Now Brinker and whichever GM he hires will be the executives tasked with leading the Titans’ plans for how to handle that draft pick.
