The 2024 WNBA rookie class has a real shot at forming the best group of first-year players in league history. Caitlin Clark, Cameron Brink and Angel Reese have already entered the league with immense fanfare on and off the court and have emerged as the next generation of stars.
Among the three that were mentioned, Reese has been selected the lowest at seventh overall but has become the leading candidate to win the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
The former LSU Tiger is the only rookie averaging a double-double this season, posting 12.1 points and 10.2 rebounds through the Sky’s 5-9 record. Reese just notched a monster double-double on Thursday with 16 points and 18 rebounds, helping Chicago own a winning record after losing four straight games.
The rookie spoke about her performance after the Sky’s victory, revealing some scary insight for the rest of the league.
“I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league,” said Reese via ESPN on X.
As her teammate Marina Mabrey explained after the game, Reese is just getting started. Her game will continue to improve as she gains traction in the league, given that she is already second in the WNBA in rebounding per game and leads all rookies in average steals.
A player like Reese always looks to improve to help her team win, admitting that she still has so much room to grow even after her best performance of the season. This just shows the level of hunger the first-year player garners.
The Chicago Sky will look to feed off Reese’s tenacity and work toward a winning streak as they play the Indiana Fever on Sunday against another top rookie in Caitlin Clark.
