Breaking News:Eagles waive Parris Campbell……Read More
The Philadelphia Eagles waived veteran wide receiver Parris Campbell on Monday evening, according to an official team announcement.
This news comes after the Eagles signed Campbell from their practice squad to their roster on Saturday. With both DeVonta Smith and Johnny Wilson unable to play in Week 13, the Eagles wanted to have Campbell suit up for them in order to have more wide receiver depth. And they could not merely use a temporary practice squad elevation since he’s out of those for the rest of the regular season. Campbell’s dismissal could portend well for the chances of Smith and/or Wilson returning to the field this weekend.
Campbell played 50% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps and 24% of their special teams snaps in Philly’s win over the Baltimore Ravens. He did not have a catch but he did log the first target of the game (a Jalen Hurts pass that was deflected at the line of scrimmage).
Assuming Campbell clears waivers, one would imagine he’ll sign with the Eagles’ practice squad once again. Here’s a recap of the transactions he’s been involved in since originally joining the Eagles back in March (via Pro Football Reference):
The roster spot the Eagles opened by waiving Campbell could be filled by signing either C.J. Uzomah or E.J. Jenkins. With Dallas Goedert expected to miss some games, the Eagles need another tight end on their roster since Grant Calcaterra is the only healthy option and both Uzomah and Jenkins are out of temporary practice squad elevations.
