Former Iowa Hawkeyes stars Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin share one of the most heartwarming friendships in the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark: I wish Kate was still my teammate
The pair’s bond, forged during their time together at Iowa, remains strong despite playing for different teams now.
Clark, currently with the Indiana Fever, recently shared her feelings about Martin’s career and expressed a desire for a reunion on the court.
Clark and Martin, both rookies in the WNBA, have maintained their close relationship, staying in contact daily.
On Thursday, both had games, with Martin’sLas Vegas Aces facing the Chicago Sky and Clark’s Fever playing against the Seattle Storm.
Before her game, Clark spoke to the media and made notable comments about Martin.
When asked about Martin’s start in the WNBA, Clark praised her friend, saying, “What everybody else sees in her, that’s what I’ve seen in her for a really long time. And I’m just really happy for her.”
She then added, “And obviously I wish she was still my teammate.”
This sentiment reflects their enduring friendship and Clark’s admiration for Martin’s abilities.
Clark’s wish for Martin to join her on the Fever roster is understandable, given their history and Martin’s skills.
Clark still collecting awards from her time at Iowa
While her college days at Iowa are over, Clark continues to receive accolades for her remarkable career.
She was recently named the 2023-24 Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year, making her the first Hawkeye to win the award in consecutive years.
This recognition comes after a season where she led the nation in several offensive categories, including average points and assists per game.
Clark has also been nominated for three ESPY Awards: Best Athlete in Women’s Sports, Best Record-Breaking Performance, and Best College Athlete in Women’s Sports.
The ESPY Awards, hosted by tennis legend Serena Williams, will air live on ABC, with fan voting open until July 11.
