Elly De La Cruz joins Pete Rose in yet another historic feat
KANSAS CITY – Don’t look now, but here comes Elly De La Cruz, just in time for another All-Star push.
The Cincinnati Reds shortstop made franchise history yet again Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium, pulling off a feat that put him on a list of two – with Pete Rose – in the team’s power-hitting annals.
De La Cruz hit 887 feet of home runs leading off the fourth and sixth innings Tuesday for his fifth career multi-homer game (second of the season).
That ties him with Rose for most multi-homer games in franchise history by a switch-hitter. And De La Cruz has done it in 314 games flat, having debuted less than two years ago.
The shortstop hit his first home run 436 feet to straightaway centerfield to tie the game, and his 451-foot rocket shot to right-center hit high into the stadium’s famous fountains.
He’s the first Reds player in the 11th-season of the Statcast era to hit two home runs of at least 435 feet in one game.
