NBA rumors: Warriors trade target Jimmy Butler wants move before deadline – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

The Jimmy Butler trade talk saga is continuing on Christmas as Shams Charania reported that Jimmy Butler would prefer a trade out of Miami by the trade deadline. With that in mind, the Miami Heat should trade Butler and in return get a star of the future from the Golden State Warriors.

That trade will be for Jonathan Kuminga. As it currently stands Kuminga appears to be on the trade block as is, and is exactly what the Heat need to rebuild their future. It seems as though Kuminga has fallen out of favor with Steve Kerr as he has been benched and called out by Kerr multiple times this season. That disconnect will make it easier for the Warriors to move on from Kuminga.

Kuminga is only 22, and hasn’t been able to fully develop as his minutes on the Warriors has been limited. Despite that, he has averaged 15.5 points, 2.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game this season, showing signs of his full potential.

With the Heat having a star like Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo, adding Kuminga with his defensive versatility, transition ability, and athleticism would help gear the Heat further towards the future.

For Golden State, they know they have to go all in with Steph Curry while he’s still performing at a peak level before he starts to fully decline. With adding Butler they add more veteran talent and an experienced player to help take them over the top. Adding Butler would greatly help on the defensive side of things for Gold
en State and with his scoring ability it would also take pressure off Curry.

With the benefits for both teams, it makes sense for Butler to end up on the Warriors, and Kuminga on the Heat.
