Nashville Predators Sign Philip Tomasino to One-Year Deal as Training Camp Opens

Tomasino‘s deal is one-way, meaning he will be paid the same salary regardless of whether he plays in the AHL or NHL this season, and he will once again be an RFA when his contract expires next summer.

The Predators selected Tomasino in the first round (No. 19 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2021 and has since recorded 23 goals and 47 assists in 148 games for the Predators.

Tomasino spent the previous two seasons splitting time between the Predators and the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. He made the NHL roster out of training camp last year but spent the second half of the 2023-24 season in Milwaukee, where he tallied 11 goals, seven assists and five playoff goals for the Admirals.

Head coach Andrew Brunette made some comments in May that prompted speculation about Tomasino’s future with the organization, saying he was “not sure [Tomasino] has a chance to play for us next year” if he continued to prioritize skill over hard work. The winger’s new contract represents a vote of confidence from the organization and perhaps a final chance to secure a long-term future in Nashville.

The Predators now have 22 players under contract – 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders – just one shy of the 23-player maximum allowed on NHL active rosters at the start of the season. According to PuckPedia, the Tomasino signing gives the Predators just over $670,000 in cap space.
