NEWS IN:Now It’s Drake’s Turn To Replace Kendrick Lamar At No. 1 On The Charts……..Read more
Drake and Kendrick Lamar may not be trading barbs anymore, but the two hip-hop heavyweights continue to go back and forth, only now it’s on the Billboard charts. Their feud dominated headlines last year, and while it appears to have cooled for now, their battle has shifted from diss tracks to digital song sales, with both men jockeying for control of some of the most important tallies in the genre.
Drake’s “Nokia” Returns to No. 1
Drake’s latest single “Nokia” is quickly growing into a proper hit. This week, the track climbs on several Billboard rankings, including a pair of genre-specific rosters that center solely on purchases.
Nokia” reclaims the top spot on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales charts. That makes it the bestselling song not just in rap, but across the larger hip-hop umbrella. Drake is accustomed to leading those tallies, and he’s back in charge again after a brief break — but what makes this turn especially interesting is who he just dethroned.
Drake Replaces Kendrick Lamar
“Nokia” kicks Lamar’s “Not Like Us” out of the No. 1 spot on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales charts. Lamar had been in command of both lists with what many saw as the definitive track in their feud. “Not Like Us” was widely regarded as the knockout punch that ended the back-and-forth between the two rappers last spring. Since then, it’s become one of the biggest tracks of the past year — the kind of song that defines not just a season, but maybe even a generation.
Not Like Us” is Still Close Behind
While “Not Like Us” is no longer leading those purchase-centric rankings, it’s hardly gone. The tune dips just one rung on each tally, settling at No. 2.
Lamar also has time on his side. “Not Like Us” has now spent 46 frames on both charts, far longer than “Nokia,” which has been present for only a month. So, while Drake is currently ahead, Lamar has built a longer-lasting win.
Kendrick Lamar Continues to Dominate the Top 10
Even though he’s no longer running the show, Lamar continues to crowd the upper reaches of both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales rankings. “Luther,” his collaboration with SZA, holds steady at No. 3 on both tallies.
He’s not done there. “TV Off,” his joint effort with Lefty Gunplay, “Squabble Up” and another cut, “Peekaboo,” created with AzChike, all currently appear inside the top 10 on at least one of the lists.
