Smith made it clear that he respects LeBron’s inner circle.
Stephen A. Smith is making sure his side of the story is heard loud and clear. After LeBron James publicly confronted him courtside, accusing him of unfairly targeting his son, Bronny James, Smith has now addressed the controversy in depth.
While LeBron‘s agent, Rich Paul, had already attempted to smooth things over, Smith is doubling down on his defense, ensuring that everyone knows he was misrepresented in the entire situation.
However, this time, Smith didn’t just talk about LeBron-he also took a moment to praise Savannah James, referring to her as the “First Lady of the NBA” and emphasizing his respect for LeBron’s family.
“I’ve always been kind to his family. I think his wife is the first lady of the NBA, class personified,” Smith stated. “I think his mom is an absolutely wonderful woman. I don’t have to talk to Randy much.
“That’s a good brother. Rich Paul and me are pretty damn cool. Rich is good people, so I’m cool with Mav as well. And various other people.”
While Smith made it clear that he respects LeBron‘s inner circle, he didn’t hold back about his own relationship with the Lakers superstar.
“But me and LeBron? We don’t roll like that. He ain’t have much use for me, and I damn sure don’t have much use for him,” Smith added.
Defending his stance on Bronny James
The controversy erupted after Smith was accused of being overly critical of Bronny James, a promising young player trying to carve out his own NBA path.
However, Smith adamantly denied ever speaking negatively about LeBron’s son. In fact, he claims he had purposely avoided analyzing Bronny‘s performance to prevent putting additional pressure on him.
“I have video documentation with me refusing to cover Bronny, never watching him out of respect for the family,” Smith explained. “Because if Stephen A. rolls into a gym or an arena and I see him, everyone’s gonna ask for my critique of him.
“And I have been on the record publicly stating that’s not fair to that kid because his father is one of the greatest ever, and they’re gonna judge him harshly, and I didn’t want to be a part of it.”
