But, let’s be honest for a second — that’s not why this team stinks. They stink for a lot of reasons, but the biggest one is being an undisciplined team, and we all know who that falls back on. The fan base and town complain that the basketball programs are put on the back burner, but the fan support isn’t there, and the fan support isn’t there because the programs aren’t good.
Well, the women are having a good year, but the men just can’t seem to stop beating themselves. That’s exactly what happened on Saturday night against the LSU Tigers, who were, at the time, considered to be the second worst team in the SEC in Mens Hoops behind winless South Carolina. LSU hadn’t won a game in a month, and that was only going to continue to be a streak until the Sooners did that thing they do this year — hurt themselves.
Sooners blow unbelievable situation to LSU in final seconds
The Sooners played their tails off late in the game to get the lead to five points with less than 25 seconds left to play. All they had to do was not foul, and force LSU to miss a heave shot. That’s, I guess, easier said than done.
Jalon Moore fouled Cam Carter on a three-point attempt, and Carter made the shot and the free throw. The lead was now one point with 20 seconds left. So, now they’re thinking all they have to do is get the ball in bounds and hit their free throws. Easy, right?
Wrong. The Sooners inbound the ball, and then pass the ball to Cam Carter, who, mind you, plays for LSU, and he gets the and-one basket and the foul to take the lead for the Tigers.
The Sooners blew a lead that should have been a win for them. But, they did something that only this basketball team would do against a team like the Tigers that just quite frankly, aren’t very good.
Then again, neither are the Sooners. Some changes have to be made.
