NEWS:Philadelphia Eagles get contract price for All-Pro linebacker……. Read more
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baunis set to be the top free-agent linebacker. With free agency starting in just a few weeks, the Eagles will have to decide if it will be prudent to keep Baun around or let him walk and collect a compensatory pick instead.
However, just what would Baun cost on the open market after his All-Pro season with the Eagles? Spotrac believes Baun will earn nearly $10 million annually on the open market, with an evaluation of $9.7 million.
Not only does that sound likely, but Baun could get an even bigger contract than that. A similar comparison would be the Pittsburgh Steelers and Patrick Queen, who was coming off an All-Pro season with the Baltimore Ravens. Queen received north of $13 million, and Baun could quickly work himself into that range.
Baun should have a strong market, though his role as defensive coordinator for Vic Fangio’s defense is quite specific. However, he would entice a return to the Eagles to maintain this top level of play.
Either way, Baun has reshaped his career from just a rotational edge rusher to an elite off-ball linebacker, and is now set to get paid well on the open market.
