Philadelphia will not sit idly by as it loses its revelation linebacker
hePhiladelphia Eaglesdon’t want to waste any time and already plan to retain linebackerZack Baun, no matter what. But it won’t be easy, the Super Bowl LIXchampion will have to make several adjustments to facilitate the deal.
There are a mix of issues that have to be taken into account, such as limited salary cap space and several key free agents that will be on the radar of aspiring teams.
With the Eagles sitting on $22.3 million in salary cap space, general manager Howie Roseman faces an exciting and strategic challenge. He must decide how to invest that money to maintain the core of the Super Bowl champion team while dealing with the potential departures of key players such as Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Mekhi Becton.
This gets even more interesting when you consider that the Eagles could restructure contracts or make cuts to free up more cap space, but every move will be a calculated gamble. They will have to make decisions with their heads, a mistake could take away the starring role they have, they have the tag of champions and that could take some pressure off them.
Baun‘s resurgence has been one of Roseman’s biggest successes in a long time! After going largely unnoticed for four years with the New Orleans Saints, the 28-year-old linebacker burst onto the scene with Vic Fangio at the helm. In this new go-around, he shined with 151 tackles, 11 for loss, 3.5 catches, four passes defensed and five fumbles forced.
He has made a name for himself and has been key for his team, a departure would leave Philadelphia fans very upset, there should be no problem for him not to leave, but sports is very unpredictable.
The player is not hiding anything and he has stated that he wants to stay, so the negotiations should not be, the Eagles are not on vacation and are still preparing to show next season that their triumph was not a coincidence.
