NRL Casualty Ward: Hynes suffers training injury; Best cleared for Origin III

Cronulla halfback Nicho Hynes is facing a stint on the sidelines after injuring his ankle at training on Monday.

The 28-year-old hobbled from the field and will be sent for scans to determine the severity of the injury.

“Hynes injured an ankle late in today’s Sharks training session at PointsBet Stadium and will be sent for scans to assess the extent of the issue,” the club said in a statement.

Meanwhile NSW centre Bradman Best has declared he is fit to play in the Origin decider after being sent for precautionary scans on Monday morning.

The 22-year-old pulled up with hamstring tightness after Newcastle’s win over the Knights on Sunday.

The news threatened to throw the Blues’ preparations for Game Three into chaos, however Best arrived in camp on Monday morning as planned after the scans cleared him of injury.

“I just pulled up a bit tight from yesterday’s game,” Best said. “I flagged it with our physios and they obviously reported it to the Blues physios here. We’re all good.”

Best was selected to replace injured NSW star Latrell Mitchell, who suffered a Lisfranc injury in South Sydney’s win over the Eels on Thursday and is facing 4-6 weeks on the sideline.

Meanwhile, Manly fullback Tolu Koula is facing a stint on the sidelines after picking up an MCL injury in his side’s win over the Cowboys.

The outside back will have scans on Monday to confirm the severity of the injury and how long he will be on the sidelines for.

Maroons coach Billy Slater has been forced to revamp his backline for the July 17 Origin decider after Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Taulagi, who suffered the injury in Saturday night’s Golden Point loss to Manly, joins fellow Queensland winger Xavier Coates on the sidelines after the Storm star tore his hamstring last week.

The Newcastle Knights were dealt a blow midway through Sunday’s clash with the Raiders when Enari Tuala hobbled from the field. The winger was later ruled out with a torn calf and faces a stint on the sidelines.
