Two months ago fans called for Ryan Day’s job after Ohio State suffered a fourth-straight loss to the Michigan Wolverines in the final week of the regular season.

Just two months later, Day led his team on an incredible run through the College Football Playoff leading to a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in the national title game.

“It wasn’t like … we were broken,” Day told reporters after the game about the loss to Michigan. “It wasn’t that way. We had an awful day. I don’t know how else to describe it. We had an awful day, and we just said we could never do that again.

Two of the players who deserve credit for Ohio State’s success this season were running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, who made program history on Monday night.

“First running back duo at Ohio State each with 1,000 rushing yards in a season in school history: TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins,” the message in the tweet said.

“And I think it’s the job of the head coach to take the responsibility when something goes bad like that, but then on days like this, make sure that everyone understands it’s the warriors and guys on the field that deserve all the credit, not the coach,” Day continued. “The coach gets too much attention sometimes.”

“First running back duo at Ohio State each with 1,000 rushing yards in a season in school history: TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins,” the message in the tweet said.

While Ohio State lists them as the only running back duo in program history to hit the mark it’s important to note that both Archie Griffin and Pete Johnson surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in 1975. With Ohio State denoting Henderson and Judkins’ historic performance it’s possible the program views Johnson as a fullback, rather than a running back.

Former star quarterback Braxton Miller and running back Carlos Hyde also both rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2013.
