Ohio State’s newest assistant coach is the answer to 3 important problems
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State’s Ohio State’s offense had a singular problem and Ryan Day might’ve just solved it with his latest hire.
Player development was never an issue with the last person he put in charge of the Buckeyes’ offensive line. Justin Frye showed how valuable he was in that category this past season. He turned Josh Simmons into a potential first-round draft pick and Seth McLaughlin into the nation’s best center as transfers. When they went down with season-ending injuries, he maximized what was left behind en route to a national title.
Building the room was never in question, which is why he’s now an NFL coach. His ability to stock it was, and Day has potentially found the solution while not sacrificing the other side.
The most important of those questions is recruiting. Can Bowen improve the Buckeyes’ offensive line recruiting efforts setting up for a better future than a room that has at best been below average? His resume says he can, even if he’s never coached at a school of OSU’s caliber.
