PENRITH PATHERS JOIN WARRIOR AND ROOSTERS IN A RACE TO SIGN…..

Jarome Luai has shared a significant revelation regarding his role and confidence following Nathan Cleary’s absence from the Penrith Panthers due to a hamstring injury. During this period, Luai stepped up as the team’s halfback, a role typically held by Cleary, and found it to be a transformative experience. Cleary’s return was marked by a thrilling golden point victory over the Dolphins, with Penrith’s coach, Ivan Cleary, opting to rest Luai and other State of Origin players during that game.

With Cleary’s return, Luai will revert to his usual position as the five-eighth when the Panthers face St George Illawarra. Despite this, Luai’s time as the primary playmaker has bolstered his confidence and skillset, particularly his kicking game. This newfound confidence is expected to benefit both his club and the New South Wales State of Origin team, where Luai has already showcased his improved performance.

Luai’s kicking accuracy has notably increased, resulting in more forced dropouts over the last four matches than he managed throughout the entire 2022 and 2023 seasons. This improvement highlights how effectively he adapted to the increased responsibility in Cleary’s absence. Although Luai acknowledges that his role will shift again with Cleary’s return, he believes his enhanced confidence will make the Panthers even more formidable.

“Our team changes significantly with Nathan in the side. He is our key player,” Luai shared with AAP. “But the confidence I’ve gained while he was out can definitely support him. I’m very confident about my game right now and I want to maintain that. Going into games, I aim to be a weapon that can create opportunities for Nathan.”

Penrith’s coach, Ivan Cleary, has also praised Luai’s development, noting that his performance has reached new heights in 2024. This evolution in Luai’s game provides the Panthers with additional attacking options. “We’ve been working on evolving their combination for a few years. Jarome’s time at No.7 will only enhance that,” Ivan Cleary said. “Jarome has reached new levels this year in Nathan’s absence. We’re trying to give the opposition different looks and place both Jarome and Nathan in positions where they are most dangerous.”

Luai also acknowledged the efforts of his teammates, who have risen to the occasion during Cleary’s absence, making the team even stronger as they approach the finals. “Everyone should aim to utilize their strengths to the fullest,” Luai added. “It helps free up other players. If I can instill this confidence in my teammates, it will be significant for us as we head into the finals.”

Overall, Jarome Luai’s experience playing as halfback in Nathan Cleary’s absence has not only elevated his personal game but has also enhanced the strategic depth of the Penrith Panthers. This development bodes well for the team’s prospects as they aim for continued success in the NRL season.
