Pisani, Horcoff reflect on Oilers what happen in 2006 will reoccure

The 2006 Oilers had a heart-wrenching end to Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final. But they hope the 2024 team finishes with a bang

Fernando Pisani and Shawn Horcoff commemorate the Edmonton Oilers’ initial goal during the first period of Game 4 against the Detroit Red Wings on April 27, 2006.

In Sunrise, Florida, the 2024 Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for a pivotal game on Monday night, aiming to achieve what no NHL team has done in 82 years: overcoming a daunting 0-3 deficit to claim the Stanley Cup. Among their most fervent supporters are the 2006 Oilers, who hold the distinction of being the first eighth-seeded team to reach the finals.

They hope the current team, led by Connor McDavid, can avoid a similar disappointing conclusion—a grueling 25-game journey spanning two months—experienced by Fernando Pisani, Shawn Horcoff, and coach Craig MacTavish in their Game 7 loss 18 years ago.
