They say you can’t go home again.
But that’s not going to stop Rick Campbell from visiting.
The B.C. Lions’ coach returns to the city where he earned his CFL head-coaching chops, leading the Ottawa Redblacks to three Grey Cups in their first five years — winning once — before bolting for B.C. after the 2019 season.
“It’s gonna be weird,” Campbell said of the most unavoidable plot line of the week. “I’m gonna have to live it and experience it, but I’m just thankful for my time there. There are tons of good people and I’ll be a Redblacks fan for life … other than when we’re playing them.
“I think Ottawa will always be a part of me and who I am. I grew up a lot there. It was obviously a big, big part of my life. I plan on coming back to Ottawa to visit regularly. I have too many friends, too ingrained as far as knowing people around there.
“It’s gonna be different coming back to the stadium since I last left there. I’m definitely excited enough to make sure I’ve got myself together … but I think that the game gets going and the competition, then it’ll just be about trying to win a football game.”
