Urban Meyer questions Ryan Day with a fair worry for the Ohio State Buckeyes during the 2025 season

The first 12-team College Football Playoff was won by the Ohio State Buckeyes, who went on an incredible run after losing to Michigan to end the regular season.

Ohio State had to defeat Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to capture their first title in a decade.

Though Ohio State is the team on top of the college football world right now, former head coach Urban Meyer has a fair concern about the Buckeyes. On a recent episode of “The Triple Option” podcast, Meyer raised the question in an interview with Ryan Day

You’re opening with Texas next year … why?” Meyer asked Day. “Other than that it’s great for the game, it’s good for the fans, it’s good for the players. But you are evaluated on one thing, not good. You’re evaluated at the end of the season. So I’m worried that these teams play these just God-awful schedules, horrific schedules, and no one’s talking about that.”

Ohio State has to host Arch Manning and Texans to start the 2025 college season at the end of August. It will be a rematch of the Cotton Bowl and a big regular season game. Both Texas and Ohio State plan to be in the mix at the end of next season, so this is a big one to open things. On Ohio State’s side, it will likely be the first career start for QB Julian Sayin. With the expanded format in the CFP, you can feel safe about getting in with one or two losses at Ohio State. However, it is three or more losses that become a worry, and playing a team like Texas isn’t a guaranteed win.
