USD alum Chris Streveler eager to return from injury and to Winnipeg

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – If there’s one place former South Dakota Coyote quarterback Chris Streveler might be as much of a folk hero to as he is in Vermillion it’s Winnipeg where he became a CFL Champion with the Blue Bombers.

After winning the Missouri Valley Offensive Player of the Year Award and finishing as runner-up for the Walter Payton FCS National Player of the Year Award with the Coyotes in 2017, Streveler joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018 and endeared himself to fans as the backup quarterback and running option.

He also became a key player who helped them win the Grey Cup in 2019.

That helped him earned a shot in training camp with the Arizona Cardinals and, eventually, regular season playing time with both them and the New York Jets.

Yet after he was hurt in the 2023 NFL Hall of Fame preseason game last year the Jets put him on injured reserve and Streveler’s season was over. He signed to return to the Blue Bombers this season, and when last in town told us how eager he is to get back on the field after a long rehab.

In his first game last week against Montreal Chris rushed seven times for 32 yards.
